Ken Bruce

Born 1964-

Animation Director, Sequence Director, Storyboard Artist, Animator, Instructor

Bio Summary:

Early Life/Family:
Grew up in Palos Verdes Peninsula. After watching Disney films like Pinocchio and Dumbo, Ken was instantly hooked on animation and knew what he wanted to do as a career. Father introduced him to flip books and got him interested in how film and animation worked. This led him to Calarts.

Career Outline:
Started as an animation assistant straight out of college on Brad Bird’s “Family Dog.” From there he bounced around studios working as a storyboard artist for features such as Toy Story and Shrek to sequence director on the TV series “Ren and Stimpy”, “T.U.F.F. Puppy”, and “The Fairly Odd Parents”.

Comments On Style:
Ken commented that he does not have a particular “style.” Due to the nature of his job he has had to adapt to the needs and design sensibilities of each show to maintain longevity in the world of animation

Best crew he ever worked with was on Shrek. The creativity and ideas that were floating around in production were some of the best he has ever shared with other artists till this day. He attributed this to Katzenberg letting loose of the reigns allowing the artists to explore the story more freely.
