Genz is currently an associate professor of animation at Edinboro University in Pensylvania. He has held this position since 1999 when he left Disney.
Genz grew up drawing from an early age. At the ae of 12 his mom paid for his first drawing class. After high school he attended Cal Arts and was in the same animation program as future directors Tim Burton and John Lassetor.
From an early age Genz's mom was very encouraging of his passion for drawing and even signed him up for classes any chance she could get.
Cal Arts 1978-1981, Art Center College of Design 1983-84, Edinboro University 2000-2001, Maine College of the Arts 2003-2005.
At Cal Arts Genz's professors were non other than the 9 old men who had collaborated on Disney's early films of the 1930's. After college his first big break in the industry, at the Filmation studio, was on the television series "He-Man."
< Genz's first job in feature films was on the now famous "Who Framed Roger Rabbit." He was given the task of collabing on the Toon Town scene which takes place at the end of the film. After Roger Rabbit he continued to work on Disney feature film's such as: Oliver and Company, The Little Mermaid, and Rescuers Down Under. While working on the production of Tarzan in 1999, he developed a really bad case of arthritis in his drawing hand. Genz was unable to continue his work on the film and ultimately ended up leaving Disney to become associate professor of animation at Edinboro University.
