Comments On Style:
While working under Tex Avery and Robert McKimson, Scribner was forced to limit experimenting with his style of animating. However, under Bob Clampett, Scribner’s boundaries were stretched, allowing him to use his “Lichty Style”. Inspired by George Lichty’s “Grin and Bear It” cartoon strip drawings which portrayed loosely drawn expressive figures; This style of drawing allowed for extreme emotional acting, allowing Scribner to push his figures to the outer most extreme limits, but still keeping them believable; “it made the characters more believable.” (Hollywood Cartoons, 437)

Influences:
George Lichty’s “Grin and Bear It”

Personality:
Julie describes her Papa/Grandfather as “a stylish dresser, and always had a cigarette hanging from his hand. He had short, wavy brown hair and beautiful eyes. He was a very handsome man, with a huge infectious smile…full of life, laughter and fun. I always remember him laughing, and he liked to pull a good prank.” One prank included, as described by Clampett, Scribner dropping “something like a manhole cover” to create a large noise in attempt to distract the other workers (*Hollywood Cartoons*). He enjoyed drawing cartoons with personal messages; “He drew several “Snoopy” pictures for us” (Julie). Another example of this includes an email by Dave Berry, who explains how even though Rod was going through his own rough patches, Scribner still made time to make his friends feel loved: “I was in a serious automobile accident and even though Rod had his own personal problems to resolve..he wrote to me to cheer me through my own lengthly recovery process.” (Dave Berry - http://dmgermain.blogspot.com/2006/03/rod-scribner.html) He “had a wonderful personality” (Julie), loving and caring towards his friends and family.
