Occupation/ Title: Businessman, best known for founding Commodore International- manufacturer of the Commodore PET, Commodore 64, Commodore 128, Commodore Amiga, and other Commodore models of home computers.
Birth: Born December 13, 1928Early Life/ Family: Tramiel was born during the Nazi invasion in 1939. Him and his family were transported to the concentration camp. His father was killed by an injection of gasoline. In 1945, the 84th Infantry Division rescued Tramiel from labor camp. He then emigrated to the United States and joined the army, where he learned how to repair office equipment, including typewriters, which later gave him knowledge on creating the Commodore.
Career Outline:
In 1953, while working as a taxi driver, he bought a shop in the Brox to repair office machinery, and named it Commodore Portable Typewriter. Tramiel started a business importing typewriters from Europe. During the mid 1980s Jack Tramiel became famous because Commodore migrated from selling calculators to home computers. This resulted of him to create Commodore 64 in 1982, which was known to be one of the top game consol at the time. In 1984, Tramiel resigned from Commodore. After a short break from the computer industry, he formed a new company named Tramel Technology, in order to design and sell a next-generation home computer. The company was named “Tramel” to help ensure that it would be pronounced correctly. Soon, Tramel Technology bought the Consumer Division of Atari from Warner Communications. In late 1980s, Tramiel decided to step away from Atari and handed over to his son, Sam. Impact on Game: During the Commodore 64’s lifetime, sales totaled 17 million units, making the best selling single personal computer model of all time. For a substantial period of time, the Commodore 64 dominated the market with between 30% and 40% share and 2 million units sold per year, outselling the IBM PC clones, Apple computers, and Atari computers. Part of its success was because it was sold in retail sotores instead of electronics stores, and that these machines can be directly plugged into an existing home television without any modifications.Impact on Game:
